WHO AND WHAT IS VAR HEALTHCARE?

VAR Healthcare is a digital knowledge and decision support system for the entire health service.

With VAR, both healthcare students and fully qualified healthcare personnel gain access to continuously updated knowledge, which in turn means that they can learn, practice and document in line with evidence-based practice.

OUR VISION

With evidence-based content and decision support, VAR helps to develop the nursing profession and the healthcare service both nationally and globally.

OUR STORY

Both the solution and the company were established in the year 2000 as a consequence of investment in digitalisation and quality assurance/patient safety in the health service. With support from the public sector and in collaboration with Østfold University College, Rikshospitalet and Telemark Hospital, a database was developed with pedagogically developed and richly illustrated practical procedures (PPS - Practical Procedures in the Nursing Service). The goal was to develop content that could be used throughout the whole of the healthcare service and in the education of healthcare personnel.

The Norwegian Nurses Association was one of the owners in the start-up phase. In 2012, the solution was purchased by Cappelen Damm publishing company. Since its inception, knowledge development has been steadily accelerating. Thus, the challenge for the individual healthcare worker has also become greater in order to continually carry out best practice. The aim of VAR was, and remains to this day, to strengthen evidence-based practice, by making knowledge readily available to healthcare personnel.
