VAR IN EDUCATION

VAR ensures evidence-based education of healthcare personnel.

In Norway, VAR Healthcare is in use in all nursing educational institutions and in an increasing number of educational institutions for social education and health care. In this way, VAR helps students learn to work with evidenced based knowledge right from the start. This strengthens the preparedness for action in the transition from education to clinical practice.

VAR will also be well suited as a basis for medical education, as a large proportion of the procedures fall within the doctors' area of responsibility.

PROFESSIONAL SECURITY

VAR Healthcare is a tool for lifelong learning and evidence-based decisions that contribute to good quality practice and improved patient outcomes.

VAR is a useful tool in:

  • Lectures
  • Practical exercise/simulation
  • Project and case studies
  • Study practice
  • Exam preparation
  • Curriculum

Your source of knowledge in both education and practice!

WHERE YOU ARE SO IS VAR - ON ALL DEVICES

We constantly receive feedback from students that they are very satisfied with using VAR on all platforms such as smartphone, tablet and PC/Mac.

Learning takes place not only in the reading room or in the learning lab, but also at home. Students have access to VAR wherever they are located and have access to the portal around the clock - all year round.  With personal access, they can save their favorite procures and content for quick and easy access.

PARTICIPATE IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

With VAR, students have the confidence to be able to set up procedures before embarking on practical practice. The procedures are amply illustrated with pictures and animations, which simplifies learning.

VAR is also used extensively in skill laboratories/practice labs prior to practice.

BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE

VAR is also used in practice. The same knowledge and decision-making support system in education and in clinical practice provides recognition and security for students/pupils, teachers/lecturers and practice supervisors.

BENEFITS OF VAR IN EDUCATION

At universities, colleges and secondary schools, teachers, pupils and students benefit greatly from using VAR.

Teachers can use VAR to:

  • prepare learning pans relating to practical skills

  • facilitate skills training

  • highlight the complexity of procedures and the use of different forms of knowledge in the execution of procedures (e.g. observing and informing at the same time as the procedure is performed)

  • assess the student's range and performance of certain skills

  • evaluate the effect of learning with knowledge tests

Pupils and students receive valuable learning support in VAR:

  • Peer learning in simulation lab

  • Easier learning of procedures with an explanation of preparations, steps in the procedure and the follow-up work required

  • Assessment of own learning with useful knowledge tests

  • A knowledge base for in-depth understanding of each procedure

  • Convenient calculator for easier medical calculations

  • Digital access and interfaces on all digital platforms
USER STORY EDUCATION

A TOOL FOR COMPETENCIES

At Lovisenberg Diaconal University College (LDH), VAR not only provides assurance of quality, but also contributes to continuity and interaction across study pathways. "We educate for evidence-based nursing and therefore use VAR systematically. VAR not only provides assurance of quality, but also contributes to continuity and interaction across study pathways, says former rector of LDH, Lars Mathisen.

MODULE - MY SKILLS

My Skills is a digital learning resource that can be used to ensure important elements in the competence development of healthcare personnel both during education and when they work in clinical areas.

The purpose of My Skills is to provide guidance, training and improvement of learning in the practice of procedures with associated knowledge material. My skills can be used both during a study situation and in practice for further competence development to ensure evidence-based practice.

In the My Skills module, an operationalised and digitised version of  the Research In Nursing Skills RINS model is  linked to all procedures. It consists of rating scales for each of the elements, which is easy and intuitive to use.
